Who are we?

Aeglos Villa’s was started in 2024 by Lilian and Peter. We are from the Netherlands and after  many holidays, all over the world, we ended up on Rhodes.

It is the classic story. When we drove south from the airport for the first time, we both knew: This feels good, this feels like home! We are approaching retirement and both still feel like doing fun things. Renting out holiday villas turned out to be a wonderful and very satisfying activity. To offer other people a wonderful and unforgettable holiday, with the added advantage that we can spend a lot of time on this beautiful island ourselves.

What do we offer our guests?

The feeling that we want to offer our guests, is the optimal luxury holiday on a wonderful island that never ceases to be great fun. We consciously look for locations that meet our criteria. Criteria, that we attach great importance to ourselves and of which we now know that our guests value and are specifically looking for: A spacious, luxurious villa with stunning views of the sea and nature in the surrounding area, near a village with all facilities but far enough away to experience the ultimate peace and privacy.

Our villas are carefully furnished and equipped with all appliances for an optimal feeling of luxury and comfort. Think of air conditioners, TV in every room, a complete kitchen inside and outside, several bathrooms and spacious terraces for sunbathing but with plenty of
shade.

In addition to all this, a wonderfully spacious private swimming pool, a beautifully landscaped garden with private parking spaces and of course powerful complimentary WiFi is available.

Local and Sustainable 

We value local communities. This means that we build in the style of the region, using local craftsmanship and, where possible, local materials and furniture made on the island by local entrepreneurs. By using solar panels and batteries for energy storage, we are independent of polluting energy sources.

Our villas are built with maximum insulation values, partly due to the use of natural stone that is mined locally. By using solar panels and batteries for energy storage, we are independent of polluting energy sources. N.B. Gas is not used in any of the villas. Where possible,
rainwater is collected to irrigate the gardens.

How did we get started? 

To be honest? More or less by chance. At first it was not even our intention to rent out holiday homes. We were looking for a house of our own in Rhodes. However, after enjoying a number of wonderful holidays on "the green island" and looking at possible houses to buy, we concluded that we missed something at every location. Sometimes the view or location was not great and sometimes it lacked the real luxury and privacy we were looking for. Sustainability is also a necessary criterion for us.

We didn’t want to be ‘in the middle of nowhere’, but certainly not in the heart of the city center either. So we made a list of things that we think are important but are difficult to find as a complete package: luxury and privacy with all facilities within walking distance as much as
possible. A tasteful interior, excellent beds, complimentary but well-functioning WiFi, luxurious bathrooms and all the appliances you are used to at home (and more). All this surrounded by sunny and well-sheltered terraces to relax, equipped with top-class outdoor furniture, a spacious private swimming pool and a beautiful garden with private parking spaces. A fully equipped BBQ/outdoor bar is a prerequisite for wonderful evenings enjoyed with a snack and a drink at your own private villa!

And, as it sometimes goes in a search, it always turns out differently than expected. We came across a Dutch Property Developer who builds villas on Rhodes. Nice conversation, coffee, wine, anyway…. Two days later we were given an extensive tour of what is now Villa
Aeglos. We will never forget the first time we stood on the terrace looking out over the sea, over Gennadi and over the mountains next to and behind us. After some negotiation we agreed on the price and 6 weeks later we had our first house!

We are often asked about the name Aeglos. It sounds Greek but certainly isn’t.

The name comes from the books of J.R.R. Tolkien, who wrote “The Lord of the Rings,” among other works. Gil-galad, the Elvenking (from the book “The Silmarillion”), had a snow-white spear that made him invincible. Aeglos represents the spearhead of our activities: offering luxury vacations in stunning villas in the best locations on Rhodes. 

Our next steps? 

In front of villa Aeglos stood a concrete skeleton in the contours of a large bungalow. Like everywhere in Greece, construction was started and then stopped; taking time to patiently waiting for a buyer. After extensive consultation back in the Netherlands, we realized the
opportunity that this house offered us: Being able to decide for ourselves what the appearance of this house will be like, while safe guarding the uninterrupted view of the first house. In addition: a great opportunity to start our own business through the rental of luxury villas.

And the rest, as it is so beautifully called, is history. Meanwhile, villa Ëarendil (also from The Silmarillion by Tolkien) is now almost ready for rental. On the News/Blog page of our website you can read more about the construction of villa Eärendil.
In the meantime, we have also bought two pieces of land in a beautiful location just south of Gennadi, towards Lachania. Here, together with a local Greek contractor, we are going to build two more villas. The permit has now been submitted and construction is expected to

Why on Rhodos?

Rhodes is an island, with all the charms that go with it. But, Rhodes is also a large island. As a reference: Rhodes is about 2.5 times the size of Ibiza and more than 10 times the size of Terschelling (a large Dutch island). From north to south, the distance is more than 80
kilometers. Rhodes feels like a real island but also a bit like an independent, small country.
The variety of landscapes, the impressive mountains in the interior, the cliffs and rocks along the coast between Faliraki and Charaki, the walled old town of Rhodes (the largest in Europe) and so much more. Rhodes even has a unique species of deer, the DamaDama.
The modern tourist will find all the modern facilities necessary for a wonderful holiday. But, Rhodes is also the sunny island with the most beautiful bays, the most entertaining beach clubs and the clearest seawater.
