Who are we?

Aeglos Villas was founded in 2024 by Lilian and Peter. We are originally from the Netherlands, and after many holidays around the world, we eventually discovered Rhodes. 

It is the classic story: the first time we drove south from the airport, we both knew immediately: “This feels right. This feels like home.” 

As we approach retirement, we are both eager to embark on new and meaningful adventures. Renting out holiday villas seemed like a wonderful and rewarding opportunity: providing others with an unforgettable holiday experience, while also allowing us to spend more time on this truly beautiful island. 

What do we offer our guests?

Our goal is to provide guests with the ultimate luxury holiday experience on an island that never ceases to inspire. We carefully select locations that meet our own high standards—criteria that we value greatly and that we know our guests appreciate as well. 

We focus on spacious villas in stunning locations, offering spectacular, unspoiled views of the sea and the surrounding natural landscape. Close enough to a village, with all the essential amenities, yet far enough away to ensure complete peace and privacy.

Our villas feature elegant interiors and all the amenities needed for a truly luxurious and comfortable stay. Think of air conditioning and televisions in every room, fully equipped indoor and outdoor kitchens, multiple bathrooms, and generous terraces for sunbathing, but also with plenty of shaded areas to relax. 

In addition, every villa includes a large private swimming pool, beautifully landscaped gardens, private parking spaces, and, of course, high-speed Wi-Fi. 

Local and Sustainable 

We place great importance on supporting local communities. This means that we build in harmony with the architectural style of the region, making use of local craftsmanship and, wherever possible, locally sourced materials and furniture produced by entrepreneurs on the island itself. 

By combining luxury, comfort, and sustainability, we aim to create exceptional holiday experiences while contributing positively to the island we proudly call our second home. 

By using solar panels and batteries for energy storage, we are independent of polluting energy sources. 

Our villas are built with maximum insulation values, partly due to the use of locally quarried natural stone. Where possible, rainwater is collected for garden maintenance. 

How did we get started? 

To be completely honest? More or less by chance. We didn’t even intend to rent out vacation homes. We were looking for a home of our own on Rhodes through a local real estate agent. After enjoying a number of wonderful vacations on “the green island” ourselves and viewing several homes, however, we found that every location was missing something. Sometimes the view or the location wasn’t great, and sometimes it lacked the true luxury and privacy we were looking for—but sustainability is also a necessary criterion for us.  

We didn’t want to be “in the middle of nowhere,” but certainly not right in the heart of the city center either. So we made a list of things we consider important but that are hard to find as a complete package: luxury and privacy with all amenities within walking distance as much as possible. A tasteful interior, excellent beds, free and reliable WiFi, luxurious bathrooms, and all the appliances you’re used to at home (and more). All of this surrounded by sunny but also well-sheltered terraces for relaxing, furnished with top-of-the-line outdoor furniture, a spacious private pool, and a beautiful garden with private parking spaces. A fully equipped BBQ/outdoor bar is a must for enjoying delightful evenings with snacks and drinks at your own private villa!

And, as often happens in a search, things always turn out differently than expected. We ran into a Dutch project developer who builds villas on Rhodes. A nice chat, coffee, a glass of wine—you know how it goes… Two days later, we were given a detailed tour of what is now Villa Aeglos. We’ll never forget the first time we stood on the terrace and looked out over the sea, over Gennadi, and over the mountains beside and behind us. After some negotiation, we agreed on the price, and six weeks later, we had our first home! 

We are often asked about the name Aeglos. It sounds Greek but certainly isn’t.  

The name comes from the books of J.R.R. Tolkien, who wrote “The Lord of the Rings,” among other works. Gil-galad, the Elvenking (from the book “The Silmarillion”), had a snow-white spear that made him invincible. Aeglos represents the spearhead of our activities: offering luxury vacations in stunning villas in the best locations on Rhodes.

What are our next steps? 

In front of Villa Aeglos stood a concrete shell in the shape of a large bungalow. As is common throughout Greece, construction had been started long ago and the property was patiently awaiting its eventual owner. After extensive discussions back in the Netherlands, we realized the unique opportunity this house offered us: the chance to decide for ourselves what the view of our first house would look like, as well as a fantastic opportunity to start our own business by renting out luxury villas. And the rest, as they say, is history. Villa Eärendil (also from Tolkien’s “The Silmarillion”) is now almost ready for rental. In the meantime, we’ve also purchased two plots of land in our favorite area around Afantou. We plan to build three more villas here, one of which will be for ourselves. Waarom op Rhodos?

Rhodes is an island, with all the charms that come with it. But Rhodes is also a large island. As a reference: Rhodes is about 2.5 times the size of Ibiza and more than 10 times the size of the Dutch island of Terschelling. The distance from north to south is over 80 kilometers. Rhodes feels like a real island but also a bit like a small, independent country. The variety of landscapes, the impressive mountains inland, the cliffs and rocks along the coast between Faliraki and Charaki, the walled Old Town of Rhodes (the largest in Europe), and so much more. The modern tourist will find all the modern amenities needed for a successful vacation.
